ROLE OVERVIEW
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivery of general nursing care utilizing the nursing process either directly or through appropriate delegation of duties to supervised staff members

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care according to physician's orders and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques and according to department policy, procedures, standards and in accordance with South Dakota Nurse Practice Act.

The Registered Nurse assesses the patient's condition and reports any significant changes to the provider. The RN performs direct care and delegates to appropriate staff; adjusting staff according to census and patient need.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
The position of Registered Nurse requires current registration as a licensed nurse in the State of South Dakota. The incumbent must have the visual and auditory ability to assess patient conditions to administer effective care using standard nurse practices; must have the ability to verbally communicate and problem solve effectively with patients, staff, physicians and families; must have the manual dexterity to perform such functions as administering injections, inserting catheters, starting IV's, administering IV solution, pushing medication card and performing CPR. The RN must have the physical ability to respond in a quick manner and in accordance with the established facility practices regarding unexpected patient safety needs; must have the ability to complete forms and records; and may be required to assist with lifting and transferring of patients. The incumbent receives job training through general orientation, patient floor orientation, inservice, and educational programs.
